Even Former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa can apply for a party organizer post if he wants, UPFA General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera said.

He made this observation at a recent SLFP press conference in Colombo when a journalist asked if Rajapaksa could also apply to a party district or electorate organizer post, since no charges have been proven against him so far.

"He can apply and face an interview. The committee will then decide" Amaraweera said.

Journalists questioned SLFP General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake and the UPFA General Secretary repeatedly over the appointment of Kamal Indika as Hiriyala Chief Organizer and the position given to Sajin de Vass Gunewardena.

"We have never said Sajin de Vass Gunawardena is good. We are still cleaning up the party" Duminda Dissanayake said. He added that the party, and not the journalists decide on appointments to its positions.
