The Parliament was suspended for five minutes after a brawl broke out inside the Chamber after a heated debate on the reduction of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's security.

Joint Opposition MPs shouted slogans against the reduction of Rajapaksa's security when Minister Sarath Fonseka started to speak.

Some MPs started fighting inside the chamber. UNP MP Sandith Samarasinghe was taken for medical treatment following the clash. UPFA MP Prasanna Ranaweera was also reportedly beaten inside the chamber.
