Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said on his Facebook page that though his army security contingent had withdrawn, he was left with a self-satisfaction of providing a secure country by eliminating war.

“Although I realized that my army security contingent have withdrawn by not having them beside me today, I am left with a self-satisfaction that I eliminated fear of war in the country and provided security for everyone”, Rajapaksa said on his Facebook page.

“I am deeply grateful to all the army officers who protected me for so long. I honor and appreciate your service”, Rajapaksa added.
