Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is scheduled to meet Media Ministry Secretary Nimal Bopage shortly. 

The meeting will be based on the controversial communique the Media Ministry Secretary has sent out to media on the use of the term 'Joint Opposition'.

Media Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka and his deputy Dr. Karunaratne Paranawithana distanced themselves from the communique stating it did not reflect the viewpoint of the government. 

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said in a statement that the Government had not even discussed or paid attention to the banning or controlling of using the name ‘Joint Opposition’.

Wickremesinghe had decided to call for explanations about issuing a missive to the media by the Ministry Secretary Without any approval from the minister overlooking the subject.
