Sri Lanka's first safari park was opened at Ridiyagama in Hambantota by Minister Gamini Jayawickrama Perera. Minister Sajith Premadasa, MP Chamal Rajapaksa and other dignitaries also participated at the event.
The area of the park in 500 acres. The park is protected by a wall and an electric fence to prevent animals from wandering off. Private vehicles are not allowed in and a special Air Conditioned bus service has been introduced.
