An internal rift is reportedly looming within the New Democratic Front (NDF) following the nomination of Ravi Karunanayake to one of the National List MP posts secured in the 2024 General Election, Asian Mirror learns.

According to reports, the United National Party (UNP), the main faction within the NDF, was unaware of Karunanayake’s nomination, and the party has yet to conclude discussions regarding its National List nominees. The NDF is officially registered under Ravi Karunanayake's name.

The NDF General Secretary has sent a letter to the Election Commission today (18), naming Karunanayake as the party's National List MP. The letter also stated that the other nominee will be informed to the Election Commission shortly.
