Minister S.B. Dissanayake said that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa opposed the suggestion that either Gotabaya Rajapaksa or Chamal Rajapaksa could become the UPFA Prime Ministerial candidate during the 2015 August General Election.

He made this revelation to media yesterday when he was asked about the rumors that Gotabaya Rajapaksa will be given a responsible post within the SLFP.

Dissanayake maintained that President Maithripala Sirisena also supported the move to appoint Chamal Rajapaksa as Prime Ministerial candidate.

However, the move was opposed by none other than former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, he also said.
