The Power and Renewable Energy Ministry is facing a crisis situation as the hydro power generation has been reduced further due to reducing water levels in the reservoirs of central highlands.

The CEB Engineering Association had earlier urged for a power cut of at least one hour as a remedy.

Meanwhile the CEB also faces system failures in the power grid, which leads to continuous unannounced power cuts daily.

A power cut affected large areas in the Central, Southern and Uva Provinces yesterday. Meanwhile several unannounced power cuts took place on Friday and Saturday in other areas and in some areas power was not restored for more than an hour.
