Seven people including five Buddhist monks who were arrested and remanded for alleged contempt of court, have been granted bail by the Homagama Magistrate’s Court today.
They were released on a personal bail of Rs. 100,000 each under the order of Homagama Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake.
The Magistrate also ordered the monks to appear at the Homagama police on every Sundays till the case is completely resolved.
The seven persons were accused of rioting over the decision to remand the Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thera on January 26 by the Homagama Magistrate for alleged contempt of court and threatening the wife of missing journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda.
Eleven including the General Secretary of the Ravana Balaya, Venerable Ittekande Saddhatissa Thero, President of the Sinhala Ravaya, Venerable Akmeemana Dayarathana Thero, Ven. Biyagama Suseema Thero, Ven Pitigala Dhamma Vineetha Thero, Ven. Matuwagala Dhammasiri and Kirama Devinda Thero and five laypersons who were arrested over the same incident were granted bail on 1st March.
