Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga was forced to turn away without attending a SLFP meeting in Divulapitiya recently due to protests by party members, political sources said.
The Divulapitiya Electorate SLFP Balamandala meeting, organized by the SLFP Organizer of Divulapitiya Chandana Jayakody, was held at Balagolla recently.
Reginald Cooray, Ruwan Ranatunga and Sarath Amunugama had taken part in the meeting. However, their speeches were constantly obstructed by those who were present and they were also hooted. The party members expressed their support to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Given the volatile situation, the former President's security officials, who had arrived earlier, advised her not to attend. Therefore, she had turned away even before she arrived at the meeting.
Meanwhile, at a recent Balamandala meeting in Gampaha, Kumaratunga vowed that those who took part in the recent 'Joint Opposition' rally will be expelled from the party.
