The Minister of Power and Renewable Energy make a statement in Parliament on March 23, explaining all details regarding the major power blackout that occurred on Sunday, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said.
In a statement released yesterday, Wickremesinghe regretted the power blackout and made it clear that such incidents will not be tolerated.
He blamed the CEB and said that it did not have any futuristic plan to face the challenge of providing electricity to the country. The government is initiating the process of formulating such a plan with the help of local and foreign expertise, Wickremesinghe said.
“We were elected to fulfill the aspirations of the people. Accordingly we will put into place midterm and short term steps to ensure that there is an uninterrupted power supply and will take steps to introduce reforms, reorganization measure and restructuring in the power sector,” the Prime Minister said in his statement.
