Lecturers of the University of Kelaniya have pulled out of lectures and other academic activities for senior students, as a protest against ragging of first year students by the seniors.

University lecturers claim that they were threatened by students when they protested against ragging. First year students were even prevented from attending lectures, lecturers said.

Therefore, lecturers will be engaged in academic work for only the first year students.

However the Student's Union rejected these claims and said that they only did an orientation program.
