Former SLFP National Organiser and Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa has rejected allegations of influencing the LTTE decision to prevent Tamil speaking voters from voting at 2005 presidential polls, by bribing the organization.
Responding to a statement made by Minister Sarath Fonseka in Parliament recently, Rajapaksa said that it is a deliberate attempt to tarnish his public image and terms the allegations as untrue and insulting. He made this statement in a clarification letter issued through his attorney.
Fonseka recently claimed that he had been informed by Basil Rajapaksa approximately US$ 2 million was given to LTTE to prevent the Tamil people in the North exercising their franchise at the 2015 Presidential poll.
The letter issued by Rajapaksa stated that legal action would be taken regarding Fonseka’s derogatory statement in the near future.
