Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday stated Parliament that economic forum recently held in Colombo was conducted by the international investor George Soros.
Wickremesinghe said that Soros had invited him to participate in the Forum.
“The Government did not fund the economic forum in Colombo and neither the government invited Soros to participate in the event. It was Soros who visited Sri Lanka and conducted the forum, and invited me to participate in it”, the Prime Minister said.
He made this statement responding to a question asked by UPFA MP Udaya Gammanpila when he said it was the Prime Minister who had informed the House that such a forum was held.
Wickremesinghe said the previous government could not get economic experts and investors to come to Sri Lanka because the previous regime had demanded commissions.
Sri Lanka Economic Forum was held on 7th and 8th January at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel Colombo.
