The first solar eclipse of the year can be observed on Wednesday (9th), said Prof. Chandana Jayaratne of the Department of Physics, University of Colombo.

The partial eclipse will be visible in eastern areas of the country from 6.47am, Jayaratne said.

Observers in eastern Australia, in South Asia, and in East Asia will be able to see a partial eclipse.
