The Value Added Tax (VAT) will be increased up to 15% while nation building tax will not be changed, PM Ranil Wickremesinghe told the Parliament a short while ago.

He assured that the prices of essential goods will not get affected.

Meanwhile he said that the capital gain tax will be reintroduced.

The Prime Minister made this observation during a special statement he delivered on the economic state of the country.
