Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has directed Education Ministry to ensure the child in Kuliyapitiya, who was denied a school due to false HIV rumors, is admitted to Ananda College, Colombo, or Kingswood College, Kandy.

Sources said that the Prime Minister made this direction following an offer made by the Ananda College to admit the child.

Several other schools were considering giving the child a place but nothing is finalized as of now.

The plight of the child attracted wide media coverage and revealed the lack of knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS in the country. Even the Education Minister made a controversial statement, saying that the child has to be separated from 'HIV infected' mother, leading to widespread condemnation.
