Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has ordered the re-establishment on intelligence units in each police station, as a measure to tackle the rising rate of crime.

The intelligence units were dissolved during the Rajapaksa government and their duty was handed over to terrorist investigation units and intelligence units of the tri forces.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has also decided that senior police officers including the DIGs, HQIs, SSPs and ASPs should take responsiblility for serious crimes in their respective areas.

Furthermore, the OICs of the police stations should also bear the responcibility, the PM has said.
