The fall of the Mahinda Rajapaksa's government began with the fast by Wimal Weerawansa near the UN office in Colombo, Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said today.
Speaking to the media at the Government Information Department, Amaraweera said Weerawansa thought the UN was merely the US and the UK.
Rajapaksa also became party to Weerawansa's campaign by offering him king coconut water to end the fast, Amaraweera also said.
He added that Weerawansa created the term 'family rule' which was later picked up by opposition parties.
