The All Ceylon Peasants' Union National Organizer and North Western Province JVP Member Namal Karunaratne yesterday said that the farmers will surround the relevant ministries if the farmers' grievances are not addressed by the present government.
Farmers have only protested in outstation towns, Karunaratne pointed out. However, there will be no stopping them taking to the streets of Colombo and surrounding the ministries if the government continues to be unresponsive, he added.
Karunaratne also said that he will take legal action at the Supreme Court to get the government enforce the Paddy Marketing Board Act No 44 of 1971.
The government is forcing the farmers to go through unnecessary difficulties to get the subsidies they are being granted, he also complained.
