Tea Plantation Superintendents say that upcountry tea industry is at risk of collapsing because of severe dry weather conditions the central highlands are currently facing and the drop of tea prices in world market.
Downfall of the economy of Middle East and plunging of the values of Ukrainian and Russian currency have directly affected the Sri Lankan tea industry, they said.
Tea plantation are in the face of a crisis because of acute labor contribution, Superintendents noted. Plantation workers are leaving jobs because of declining monthly salaries, they stressed.
