Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe called for a report from the Power and Renewable Energy Ministry on the countrywide power failure that lasted for several hours yesterday.

This was the second countrywide blackout experienced following the General Election in August 2015. In September last year, the country experienced an island-wide blackout due to a technical fault at the Ceylon Electricity Board.

Meanwhile a special meeting was also held on the incident last evening at the Power and Renewable Energy Ministry.
