Two residents of Vavuniya District who won bronze medals in the recently concluded 12th South Asian Games were felicitated in Vavuniya recently.

Suranga Nuwan Kumara of Kulukunnammaduwa, Vavuniya, a sportsman from the Sri Lanka Navy, won bronze medal in Triathlon (individual) and Triathlon (mixed relay) events.

Meanwhile, Buddhika Lakmal Weerasekara from Nawagama, Vavuniya, was a member of the bronze medal winning men's Kabadi team.

The felicitation ceremony was held at the Vavuniya District Secretariat under the patronage of District Agent M.B. Rohana Pushpakumara.

It was revealed that these bronze medals were the highest achievement by any athlete from the Northern Province to date.
