Two witnesses who came to Balapitiya court to testify in a case have been shot a short while ago, the police reported.

One person died from the shooting. The other person was admitted to hospital.

The court case against Migettuwatte Sumiththa Thero was scheduled to be heard today.

Onlookers said that the gunman had fled from a bus.
