Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna General Secretary Tilvin Silva today demanded the government to explain as to why it has failed to lower the fuel prices, despite the dramatic reduction of crude oil prices in the international market.

The crude oil prices have dropped to about one fourths of its value within a short period of time, he pointed out, adding that the government has yet not done anything to reduce the prices or introduce a price formula as promised.

President Maithripala Sirisena, during his Presidential Election campaign, promised to introduce a formula to adjust fuel prices according to word market prices. However, the government is yet to introduce such a formula more than one year into his Presidency.
