Minister of Women and Child Affairs Chandrani Bandara slammed the 'Joint Opposition' last evening for 'screaming' to defend one family in particular.
Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo, she said that the 'Joint Opposition' which backs former President Mahinda Rajapaksa decided to launch a protest in the midst of a crucial debate for the women of Sri Lanka.
The Parliament was debating on the increase of female representation in local councils.
Bandara alleged that the 'Joint Opposition' acted against the interests of the women of the country. Even a former female Minister joined in this protest, she said.
She also maintained that the 'Joint Opposition' is repeatedly obstructing the Parliament to promote family rule, which the people rejected in January 2015.
