The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al-Hussein rejected a request made by Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran to intervene for the release of LTTE prisoners through a general amnesty.

Wigneswaran made the request yesterday morning when he met the UNHRC Chief in Jaffna.

Zeid has said that the release of the prisoners should be carried out under the available legal procedure.

The UNHRC Chief met with relatives of the disappeared and the IDPs during his northern trip.
