Former Embilipitiya ASP DWC Dharmaratne, who was arrested yesterday, is likely to be charged with murder, police sources said.

The former ASP was accused of the murder of 29-year-old Sumith Prasanna Jayawardena by his widow. His arrest was ordered by the Embilipitiya Magistrate's Court last Wednesday. However, he was arrested only yesterday, six days after the arrest order.

Sources said that the former ASP was arrested since there was another witness which could back the claim by the widow of Jayawardena.

Meanwhile, serious questions have been raised on the conduct of the Embilipitiya Police on the night of the incident. Therefore, the Police could take legal action as per the Attorney General's directions against the other police personnel, sources also said.
