Air Vice Marshal Chrisanthus Ranil Gurusinghe has been appointed as the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Air Force by the President.

Air Force media Spokesman, Wing Commander Gihan Seneviratne said that appointment comes into effect from today.

Air Vice Marshal Chrisanthus Ranil Gurusinghe was born on 15th March 1962 and had his education at De Mazenod College, Kandana. 

He joined the Sri Lanka Air Force as an officer cadet on the 12th of February 1981 in the 9th intake of officer cadets and was commissioned as a Pilot Officer in the General Duties Pilot branch on 8th April 1983.
 
He has been decorated with Weera Wickrama Vibhushanaya(WWV), Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP) and Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) in addition to many campaign and operational service medals.

Air Vice Marshal Gurusinghe has held the appointment of Commanding Officer No 6 Helicopter Squadron, and No 4 Helicopter Squadron. During his time as the Commanding Officer of No 6 Helicopter Squadron, he also held the appointment of Air Defence Commander North. 
 
He has served as the Base Commander, Sri Lanka Air Force Base Vavuniya, Sri Lanka Air Force Base Ratmalana and Sri Lanka Air Force Base Katunayake.  He was also the Overall Operations Commander Bandaranaike International Airport security and The Command Flight Safety Officer of the SLAF.

At Air Force Headquarters he has served as Staff Officer Operations I, and was appointed the Director Civil Engineering in May 2012.

Air Vice Marshal Gurusinghe’s professional development included numerous professional training programmes and courses including Junior Command and Staff Course and Joint Air Warfare Course in India.  He is a graduate of Pakistan Air Force Air War College, Karachi where he followed the Senior Command and Staff Course and of the National Defence College Islamabad, where he completed the Allied Officers War Course.  He is a fellow of the Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies in Hawaii.  He is a graduate of the prestigious National Defence University Islamabad Pakistan and holds a Bachelor of Science honours Degree in Defence and Strategic Studies.
