The arrest of Yoshitha Rajapaksa, second son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, was not motivated by political reasons, Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure Minister Harin Fernando said.

Addressing the media today at the ICTA in Colombo, Fernando said that Yoshitha Rajapaksa will be released if proven not guilty.

If it was a politically motivated arrest, the police would not have arrested Nishantha Ranatunga, who is a brother of Minister Arjuna Ranatunga, Fernando also maintained.

"First they said that the government is not doing anything against offenders. Now, when the government acts, it is termed political revenge," Fernando said.
