UPFA MP and Mahajana Eksath Peramuna leader Dinesh Gunawardena today termed Yoshitha Rajapaksa and the others arrested over the alleged financial fraud in Carlton Sports Network as 'political prisoners.'

Speaking to media after visiting the suspects in the Welikada prison, Gunawardena said that they were arrested since multiple attempts to finish former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's political career ended in failure.

Yoshitha Rajapaksa was arrested for a political reason and according to a political agenda, he argued. It is a political conspiracy against Mahinda Rajapaksa and therefore it is a political arrest, Gunawardena also said.

Around 15 Parliamentarians of the 'Joint Opposition' including Wimal Weerawansa, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Bandula Gunawardena, Udaya Gammanpila, Dallas Alahapperuma, C.B. Ratnayake, Weerakumara Dissanayake and Rohitha Abeygunawardena visited the five suspects at the prison.
