The Health Ministry yesterday appointed a three member committee to probe the alleged kidney transplant racket uncovered by police in India, directing it to submit a report within a week.
The committee is composed of Health Ministry Personal Health Service Director Kanthi Ariyarathna, Western Provincial Health Service Director Deepthi Perera and another senior officer attached to the ministry.
The committee will visit the private hospitals where the 6 Sri Lankan doctors allegedly performed the kidney transplants.
The Sri Lanka Medical Council will be informed about the six doctors and their alleged involvement in the alleged racket, Health Services Director Dr. Palitha Mahipala said.
