National Child Protection Authority on Thursday (03) stated that they were conducting further investigations over the controversial video that went viral yesterday, and that they had already received some information from several sources.
The video showed two apparently drunken males beating a girl severely while another person recorded the incident. It went viral yesterday after it was uploaded on Facebook. Since its release coincided with the International Children’s Day, it was able to draw widespread attention.
When contacted by 'Asian Mirror', the investigation officer handling the case told that they have to confirm whether the girl is an underage person. If she is an underage person the NCPA can probe into the matter, he pointed out. But if she is an adult, a complaint with the police should be filed, the officer added.
He further said that according to information received, the incident has happened about one and half years ago. Moreover, some other source indicated that the girl is married and over 18 years old. However, these claims are yet to be confirmed, he added.
The Kalutara Police is collaborating with the NCPA to find out more details over the incident, the investigation officer said.
Furthermore, he urged the general public to contact the NCPA through its hotline 1929 if they know relevant details about the incident.
