November 20, 2024
Badulla Police arrested former minister Harin Fernando in connection with an election law violation during the recent general elections.

According to police, Fernando was taken into custody after providing a statement at the Badulla Police Station earlier today.

A tense situation arose in Badulla on 11 November involving Fernando's group and police officers, who accused them of violating election laws during a campaign event in the city. Fernando and his supporters were reportedly wearing t-shirts styled after Argentine football star Lionel Messi's iconic attire.

During a heated exchange with police, Fernando was heard telling an officer, "I'll see you after the election, if I win."
