Sri Lanka's first Police Media Spokesman, Rienzie Chandralal Perera, passed away yesterday, Police Media Unit said.

Perera joined the Police Department as a trainee Sub-Inspector in 1972. He was promoted Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1972.

He was appointed as Police Media Spokesman in 1998 and served in this capacity for nine years.

In 2007, he was appointed Acting Deputy Inspector General of Police in the East. He retired in 2008.
