The All Ceylon Teacher’s Union Secretary Joseph Stalin hit out at the Police for taking a 17-year-old student into remand custody without proper evidence over the murder of the Kotadeniyawa toddler.
Speaking to local media, Stalin further said that the Police should make a statement immediately if the arrested student is connected to the incident.
Stalin said that the reputation of the student has been tarnished because of this arrest. As he is also an underage person, news published about him could be a huge damage to his future and studies, he added.
According to local media, the Acting Police Spokesperson Priyantha Jayakody said that the police arrested the 17-year-old based on some videos stored in his personal computer.
Although he did not mention a connection between those videos and the murder, he said that the police could arrest an individual if there is a suspicion that he or she has a connection with an incident, media reported.
