The government decided to scrap the Leadership Training programme for new university students initiated by the former government of Mahinda Rajapaksa.

This programme had been criticized by several parties on several grounds.

The newly appointed Minister of University Education and Highways Lashman Kiriella said that the programme will be replaced with an international language training programme.

Meanwhile, the Inter University Students' Federation praised the government's decision and added that the government should not re-introduce the programme in a different manner.
