Three civil society members were proposed for the Constitutional Council when it met for the first time at the Parliamentary Complex today.

Accordingly, Dr. AT Ariyaratne, Dr. Radhika Coomaraswamy and President's Council Shibly Aziz have been proposed as members of the 10-member council.

The Constitutional Council was established by the 19th Amendment to the Constitution and is headed by the Speaker. Its members include seven MPs and three civil society members.

The Parliament should approve the names of the proposed civil society members to the CC.
