National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa questioned the Central Environmental Authority on the recent controversy regarding the Coca-Cola Factory in Biyagama, saying that its actions were questionable.
Speaking to Asian Mirror, he said that the CEA had suspended the Environmental Protection License of the factory, only to revoke the decision within a matter of days, without providing proper solutions to the environmental pollution in the Kelani River.
He added that the National Freedom Front was concerned by the incident and will be taking action on it in the near future.
Moreover, the total damage caused by the company cannot be covered by a simple compensation, the NFF leader added. He also questioned the ‘strange’ silence of NGOs, environmentalists and certain politicians such as the JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake on the matter.
