New Zealand’s five-dollar note has been named the banknote of the year for 2015, a “clear winner” among nearly 40 eligible designs from a record 20 countries.

The honour is awarded every year by the International Bank Note Society.

The society praised the “stunning orange and brown” design and its “gorgeous polymer window”. The note is printed by the Canadian Bank Note Company in Ottawa.

Sweden FM In Colombo

Foreign Minister of Sweden Margot Wallström called on her Sri Lankan counterpart at the Foreign Ministry in Colombo this morning. The Swedish Foreign Minister is on a three day visit to the island and heads a delegation which includes representatives of several powerful Swedish businesses.

Buddhist monks lead prayers yesterday for the relatives of quake victims at the remains of Kathmandu's Kasthamandap Temple. Remembrance events were held across Nepal for the victims of the quake which hit the country on April 25, 2015.

Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday. Deputy Foreign Minister Harsha de Silva greeted her upon arrival. She will meet with the President, Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister and other officials in Sri Lankan government.

This is the Arcade Independence Empire Deluxe theater after a movie screening recently, posted on Facebook by Ahamed Nishadh. According to him, this is a usual phenomena and the Manager of the threater has to take extra effort to make sure the seats and carpets are clean after each screening.

"A small chat with him revealed that the situation is much worse sometimes that people spill drinks and what not also in the carpets that they have had to shampoo the carpets between the shows to make sure they were clean for the next."

This theater is the second most expensive ticketed theater in the island and is usually visited by the so called 'elite', Nishad noted.
