In recognition of his services to the country, religion and national security, Chief of Defense Staff Shavendra Silva was bestowed with the title of Mahamanya Pratapadhikeshwara at the Asgiri Maha Viharaya today (28) afternoon.

The Asgiri Maha Vihariya Vinshadvargika Karaka Sangha Sabha had decided to bestow this honorary title to Shavendra Silva in consideration of his yeoman service to the country, nation, religion and society spanning several decades.

Accordingly, Mahanayaka Thero of Asgiri Chapter the Most Venerable Warakagoda Gnanarathana Thero presented the Sannas Pathra with the title of Mahamanya Pratapadhikeshwara to the Chief of Defense Staff at the temple’s uposathagaraya on behalf of the Karaka Sangha Sabha.

The Anunayake Theros of Asgiri Chapter, the Venerable Anamaduve Dhammadassi Thero and Venerable Vedaruwe Upali Thero, the Anunayake Thero of the Malwathu Chapter Venerable Dimbulkumbure Wimaladhamma Thero and the Maha Sangha, as well as the Diyawadana Nilame, members of parliament, clergy, ambassadors, Inspector General of Police, Tri-forces commanders and many others were in attendance.
