A mob led General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena Ven. Galagodaathe Gnanasara Thera disrupted a press conference organised by the ' Jathika Bala Sena' headed by Ven. Watareka Vijitha Thero who was previously assaulted and hospitalised last year for his criticism against the Bodu Bala Sena.
The press conference organised by the Jathika Bala Sena was scheduled to commence at 10.30 am this morning at the Hotel Nippon in Colombo.
However minutes prior to the commencement, a mob led by Ven. Gnanassara disrupted the proceedings and thereafter threatened Ven. Wijitha against holding the press conference while verbally abusing and threatening him.
The standoff which continued resulted in full view of the journalists present resulted in Ven. Wijitha succumbing to the abuse and apologising for calling the press conference.
Wijitha Thero had also said that he would disband the organisation.
Ven. Wijitha Thero a PS member of the UPFA has been a vocal critic of the Bodu Bala Sena and especially the Secretary of the organisation alleging that Ven. Gnansara was well known for his ' drunken behaviour' during a rally last year.
