The Department of Examinations said 9444 students had failed all subjects in GCE OL Examination 2013 accounting for 3.57% of the students who sat for the exam.

In 2012, the Department said, there were 11,100 students who failed all nine subjects in 2012 and as a percentage ir stood at 4.13%. Addressing a press conference at the Education Ministry yesterday, Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena said this year, as a whole, OL students have shown significant progress.

The minister stated that when compared  to the 4509 students who received 9 As in 2012, thre were 5737 students in 2013 who got A passes for all subjects. 

“In 2011 there were 164191 students who selected for Advanced Level Examination and in 2012, the number stood at 174160. In 2913, 176534 students have qualified themselves for ALs. That is a satisfactory trend. We hope this would continue in coming years as well," he said.
