The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), one of the constituent parties of the government, has stated that the government should cooperate with the Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to conduct an international investigation into alleged war crimes in Sri Lanka during the final phase of war.
Speaking to the Tamil Service of BBC, Hasan Ali, General Secretary of the SLMC, has said the only way for the government to correct 'misconceptions' about war crimes is to facilitate an international investigation.
"If we do not cooperate, that will give rise to the speculation that we have something to hide and we are trying to run away from the issue," the General Secretary said.
He had also added that the international investigation was not a move against the country.. "Only those who have committed crimes will face problems during an international investigation. If we have not committed crimes, we do not have to worry about an investigation," he had said.
He also said that the SLMC does not point its finger at the government over alleged war crimes.
