Interim Order Sought To Impound Mohan Peiris's Passport

A customs official T.R. Ratnasiri and Attorney-at-law Nagananda Kodituwakku today filed writ petition in Court of Appeal seeking an interim order to impound the passport of de-facto Chief Justice Mohan Peiris over Colombo Dockyard Ltd (CDL) corruption complaint filed against him at the Bribery and corruption commission.

The Court of Appeal will take up this matter again on Friaday (6).


The petitioners alleged that the seven respondents including D.J. De S. Balapatabendi, the Chairman of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, failed to enforce law against Mohan Peiris and sought an order of writ of Mandamus directing the chairman of bribery commission to initiate a formal inquiry against Mohan Peiris.

A complaint of a criminal offence of corruption was filed against Mohan Peiris for alledgely causing a colossal loss of government revenue of over Rs.619 million by an attorney-at-law before Bribery and Corruption commission.


Attorney-at-law Nagananda Kodituwakku making his complaint before bribery commission alleged that Peiris unlawfully attempted cover up customs inquiry against Colombo Dockyard Ltd (CDL).
Lawyer alleged that when the matter came up before Supreme Court in 2009 the then Attorney General Peiris refused to proceed with the court action initiated by the Solicitor General.


He requested Bribery commission to initiate credible investigation into this complaint which refers to a deceitful and fraudulent act committed by Peiris causing a loss of government revenue amounting to Rs.619 million.
