A businessman has been arrested following the seizure of a luxury vehicle valued at around Rs. 30 million, suspected to have been illegally assembled and hidden at a residence in Vitharandeniya, within the Tangalle Police Division.
Acting on a tip-off, officers from the Matara Division Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) searched the residence yesterday (12) and discovered the Toyota Land Cruiser. The current owner could not produce documentation verifying the vehicle’s registration.
The businessman from Pallegama, Embilipitiya, identified as the owner, surrendered to Matara Police through his attorney and was taken into custody. He is to be presented before the Walasmulla Magistrate’s Court.
The vehicle was reportedly acquired from a dealership in Kandy, and an analytical report from the Government Analyst’s Department will be obtained as part of the ongoing investigation.
