The Colombo Fort Magistrate today ordered to remand former General Secretary of UNP and Parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake until February 11.
Attanayake who was arrested by the Criminal investigations Department (CID) today for publicising a document with forged signatures, was presented before the Colombo Fort Magistrate a short while ago.
Speaking to media after the arrest, Police Media Spokesman ASP Ajith Rohana said that Attanayake was arrested on the grounds that the former UNP General Secretary presented a false document to the media while claiming it was a ‘secret agreement’ between President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
In the document, the Police Media Spokesman said, the signatures of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had been forged.
The CID started initial inquiries into the matter after the United National Party lodged a complaint with the Bribery Commission saying that Attanayake presented the ‘false document’ in order to sabotage Maithripala Sirisena’s Presidential Election campaign.
