Northern Province Chief Minister C. V. Wigneswaran praised the government's decision to appoint K. Sri Pavan as the Chief Justice of Sri Lanka.
Speaking to BBC he stated that this move shows that Sri Lanka is treating minority communities as equal as the majority community. He said that the TNA was happy at the appointment not because Sri Pavan is a Tamil but because the move shows the way the government is trating the minosities.
The move serves to increase the credibility of the government, and to establish the fact that the Rule of Law is been strengthened, he added.
Wigneswaran also said that the international community also believes that Sri Lanka has now entered a new political path.
K Sri Pavan is the second person of the Tamil community to be appointed Chief Justice, the first being CJ S. Sharvananda, who was appointed after the impeachment of CJ Neville Samarakoon.
