Participating in her ceremonial sitting today (29), Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake said that justice was served to her after two years.
In her speech during the ceremony, Bandaranayake congratulated Justice K Sripavan who is tipped to be the next Chief Justice of Sri Lanka.
“I fought for two years not only for myself but for the independent legal system of the country and against corruption”, she said.
She expressed her gratitude to President Maithripala Sirisena and the government for reinstating her in the former position. She added that the Bar Association of Sri Lanka stood by her side during this long drawn battle amidst massive pressure which was exerted upon them.
Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake retired from her position 746 days after her impeachment.
She also said that she and her family suffered 'turmoil and peril' in the aftermath of her impeachment.
Meanwhile, addressing the gathering, BASL President Upul Jayasooriya that it is appreciable to see Shirani Bandaranayake step down from her position and make way to Justice K Sripavan.
