European Union said that it will take another few months to remove the ban on Sri Lankan fisheries products it imposed earlier this month.
The EU has informed this to Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera who visited Brussels to discuss the matter.
Samaraweera met with Karmenu Vela, the EU Commissioner designate for the Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. His spokesman told media that the Commissioner expressed his satisfaction at the steps taken by the new Sri Lankan government to get the ban removed.
The spokesman added that the Commissioner has taken the assurance of the new government into consideration.
He also added that the EU will send a team to observe whether Sri Lanka was upholding its promises on the matter.
